Why DP, Not Profile picture?

DP is referred to Display Picture.

In the very first days of online messaging this term DP is used widely, the social networking website Facebook introduced the term profile picture instead of display picture to show some difference. So the people who are using from the early days call it as DP so they are not using Profile picture.
